Debbie Thwaites had the task every parent faces: planning her daughter’s birthday party. Bouncy castle? Bowling? Balloons and bunting? Not this year…

Although Charlotte was only turning 6, this little girl had some BIG plans!

“I like where we live, but people keep ruining it by dropping litter. If we pick up litter for my party, that will make it nice again… and save our planet!”

The Litter Picking party was a fantastic success! Charlotte was joined by around 20 of her friends from school and their parents, and everyone had a really great time.

They speedily picked up around 7 bags of rubbish off the Barnsbury estate. When they finished, they were greeted by the mayor who presented them all with homemade certificates (top arts and crafts work from Debbie!), followed by a celebratory lunch.

It seems that the trend has been set, as other local parents are already inspired by such a great idea and their kids are planning their own litter pick parties for the rest of 2020!

This is a story that truly brings a smile and lets everyone in our community know that the future really is in good hands due to people like Charlotte. A very belated Happy Birthday from everyone at #WEAREWOKING.
