There’s never been a better time to turn your hand to gardening, as a group of keen horticulturists have found at the Incredible Edibles site in Rydens Way, Old Woking.
Local residents have joined together with the support of Woking Borough Council have joined together to transform the site during lockdown. Sharing skills and experience, they have successfully transformed the disused area.
Damage to the raised flowerbed has now been repaired, and the team have been working together to find solutions to water supplies. A newly-installed water storage unit has been provided, and combined with the neighbourly donation of hosepipe usage, the area is blooming.
Even Old Woking’s children have been getting involved. The wildflower meadow has beautiful signage designed and created by residents.
At the Incredible Edibles site, food crops, such as fruit, vegetables and herbs are planted with the aim of encouraging cooperation. Everyone is welcome to help look after the plots, and help themselves to the produce.
The project aims to transform unloved pockets of land back into productive use, uniting the community in a new project whilst encouraging a sustainable lifestyle.
