Bare + Fair, Woking’s only independent supplier of sustainable home, body and skin essentials, has launched a successful new online shop and free local delivery service.
Founder Mel Hemmings said that after being forced to temporarily close her established ‘zero waste’ pop-up retail outlet in Woking Market, she was keen to keep up with the demand from her loyal and growing customer base.
‘Keeping life green in quarantine’ has been a mantra for Mel during lockdown and she now hopes that the new online service will give mean more people will be able to buy what they need and on a more regular basis long into the future.
“With restrictions easing, I’m hoping that I’m back at Woking Market next month, but in the meantime, I’m delighted that consumers can get what they need delivered safely to their door. The local delivery service has been such a success that I am hoping to continue this as well.”
With a keen focus on reusing and recycling, Mel also offers a novel refill scheme to local residents – delivering full-size refills of eco-friendly cleaning products and toiletries in containers while collecting empties to be used again.
“The launch of our delivery service has been an incredible success,” Mel said. “For the past number of weeks, we have been delivering in excess of 100 litres of refills every week. We’ve saved an estimated 2,000 single-use plastics during lockdown, and it’s great that we can still help the people of Woking to reduce their household waste and carbon footprint during lockdown.”
Bare + Fair has also been helping Woking’s most vulnerable residents get through the last two months. Its website includes a ‘Donate To Woking Food Bank’ page, allowing customers to purchase and donate much-needed household items while shopping online. The donations are delivered to Woking Food Bank for free, on behalf of Bare + Fair’s customers.
“We’ve been blown away by the generosity of our customers,” Mel said. "While doing their own sustainable shopping, our customers have also kindly donated almost 100 litres of household products, and hundreds of toilet rolls to Woking Food Bank. We’re delighted to be able to give back to the community at this time.”
Bare + Fair sells a wide range of products, including eco-friendly household cleaners and personal care products, such as shampoo, conditioner and laundry detergent. It also sells alternatives to plastic products, like bamboo toothbrushes, toothpaste tabs, refillable dental flossing, wooden hairbrushes, plastic-free hair ties, shampoo bars, reusable bottles and coffee cups.
