Air Cadets in Woking are under new management. Pilot Officer Justin Muir has taken over the reins at 1349 (Woking) Squadron ATC from Flight Lieutenant Wendy White as she moves on to a new role.
Plt Off Muir joined 1349 Squadron as a Civilian Instructor in February 2016 having seen the opportunities the ATC had given his son, who is a cadet with 1349 Squadron. After joining, Plt Off Muir initially gained shooting qualifications to help develop the activity on the Squadron for the Cadets. Since gaining his range officer qualification, he has run shoots for cadets using the Air Rifle and full-bore rifles, with every cadet now being able to gain shooting qualifications. In 2017, he started the process to gain a cadet forces commission. Having successfully passed the selection board at the Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre and completing the Officer Initial Course he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in May 2018.
Aside from participating in numerous activities on the Squadron and running various shooting ranges, he is also a member of the Surrey Wing Road Marching Team and will be involved in the Surrey Wing Military team taking part of in the Nijmegen four-day marches in July 2019.

Plt Off Muir takes over from Flight Lieutenant Wendy White who has been Commanding Officer of 1349 Squadron since June 2016. She has been at the Squadron in various staff roles for 11 years and has led and organised numerous events including camps, adventure training, mountain biking, sports as well as being the training officer. In addition to running the Squadron, she has also managed the Surrey Wing Nijmegen Road Marching activity for many years and has completed the annual Nijmegen four-day March in Holland an incredible 14 times! Flt Lt White leaves 1349 Squadron to take up the role of Wing Sports Officer with Hampshire and Isle of White Wing ATC.
