Woking on a Budget

Friday 26th January 2018

The January blues are almost at an end and we’re all finding our wallets feel a little lighter. Thankfully, Woking has so much to offer for you to spend a weekend that won’t break the bank.

Here’s our guide for a fun-filled family day out in Woking for under £40.

And remember - a classic family day out demands a classic packed lunch. Remember budget doesn’t mean bad, so Pop down to our pal Boz’s Fruit & Veg on Church Path or take a stroll down Woking Market Walk and lift some healthy snacks to keep you fuelled throughout the day!

The Surrey Half Marathon is fast approaching, so get out and get active at the stunning event venue: Woking Park. Going out at the weekend? Get down on Saturday morning and cheer on the runners at Woking Parkrun – or dust off the trainers and stretch those legs!

The Lightbox is one of our favourite spots for brushing up on local culture and history. With free entry it’s mind-expanding time for you and your little ones.

Speaking of little ones, here’s a half-term treat – check out the Mini Floating Boats event on Wednesday 14th February for a fun arts-and-crafts experience. Using cork and recycled materials, make your own mini-float that can float down the canal or at bath-time! Entry is free with a suggested donation of £3. Bargain.

With our minds on Well-Being, remember to stay fed and watered. Indulge in the Vietnamese street menu at Bep Viet on Commercial Way with tasty dishes for £5 a head. For a quid extra, discover the traditional rice noodle soup dish, Pho, for a feel-good lunch that tastes great!

We’re all a bit guilty of having our heads down too much, staring at our phones. When author, HG Wells was living in Woking – where he wrote some of his best works – he looked up and let his imagination soar. Now, we get to look up at Church Street East and see the magnificent Woking Martian sculpture.

If you or your children have yet to read Wells’ The War of the Worlds that inspired the piece, now’s a great time to see if you can uncover a copy at one of the charity shops on Commercial Way.

Gelato Class on Commercial Way is the perfect spot to round off a day out, and warm yourself up with an artisan coffee. Well-Being is about keeping everything in moderation, so if you’ve earned yourself a scoop of ice cream, we couldn’t resist their menu either!

If a cool refreshment is making your mouth water, keep it healthy with a smoothie from Fuel Juice Bar in The Peacocks Centre.
