Woking in Technicolor!
Planning is underway for Woking to proudly raise the rainbow flag next year as we will be hosting Surrey's first ever Pride event!
Surrey Pride will take place on the 10th of August 2019 in Woking Park.
Up until this point, there have been no Pride celebrations within the county, as the UK's main Pride celebration is held in London.
Addlestone local, Stephen Ireland, decided that he would like to celebrate LGBTQ+ culture in one of the UK's largest counties to show our great diversity. He took it upon himself to be the person to kick-start that change and Woking is the perfect place to host the event!
“It’s time to put Surrey on the map as a county that welcomes all, so our people don’t have to travel out to feel like they can be themselves."
- Stephen Ireland.
Stephen has experience in this field as an event host from Addlestone. He's also been involved in organising multiple Pride celebrations all over the country! It certainly looks like we've found the right man for the job.
“We are delighted that Woking will host the inaugural Pride in Surrey parade on Saturday, August 10, 2019. It is another example of Woking’s growing reputation for hosting colourful and inclusive annual events. With Stephen’s wealth of experience working on both UK and international Pride events, I have no doubt that he and the team will create a parade second to none.”
- Councillor Will Forster, Mayor of Woking
